2 oz Dry Gin
¾ oz Lemon Juice
½ oz Maraschino Liqueur
¼ oz Violette Liqueur

What To Do

Combine all ingredients. Shake well with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. I like to garnish mine with a single maraschino cherry sunk to the bottom.

A Few Words

The Aviation, aka the coolest looking cocktail ever, was first published in Hugo Ensslin’s “Recipes for Mixed Drinks” in 1916. Some recipes just call for a teaspoon or barspoon of Violette Liqueur but I bump mine up to a full quarter ounce. I feel this makes for a more balanced drink. Violette liqueur is also much easier to get now so it shouldn’t be a problem finding a bottle with a little effort. You can also add ¼ oz of Simple Syrup if you want it a little sweeter as this is a very spirit forward drink. So yeah, if you want to impress your friends, bust this recipe out. Cheers!
